I noticed my dog freaking out on the couch a while back and noticed that he had a marrow bone stuck around his lower jaw just like in the picture below. Now I think this was a lot worse for me than it was for him because I immediately started to panic. After about 15 minutes of me trying to get it off myself, I decided to call my vet. Of course, it was on the weekend, so I had to call the emergency vet. As luck would have it my vet was the one on call that weekend. I was so panicked because my dog was so panicked and flipping around on the couch like something you've never seen before. My heart was so sad for him. He told me he was only about 2 minutes from the clinic. I was thinking to myself how lucky we were. I hung up with him and was getting ready to leave when we got the luckiest break. He actually got it off himself. I was so relieved and immediately called my vet back. He was very happy that had happened, and he said that it's quite rare for them to get it off. He told me to watch his lips and gums for the bleeding and to check his teeth. He also said that he would see me anytime if I felt it was needed. He turned out to be just fine and he was immediately back to his goofy self as soon as it came off.
My boy and I were incredibly lucky and grateful for our outcome but there are many others that are not. Normally the dog would have to be given anesthesia and the bone would be cut off. Other hazards are Teeth breaking or pieces splintering or breaking off in bigger chunks causing serious digestive problems. If you do give your dog marrow bones, please make sure you get the ones with holes small enough that their jaw can't fit through. If you buy them at your local grocery store like we do, you could ask your butcher to cut them in half for you. And please always monitor your dog's when eating bones.

Please spread the awareness.
